A transformational development for Sierra Leone

Peninsula City is emerging on West Africa’s most spectacular ocean site: 355 prime acres just 35 minutes south of Freetown. It is being developed as a Joint Venture between Peninsula Group Limited, Peninsula City Limited and the Government of Sierra Leone.

The Joint Venture Agreement, signed by the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs on behalf of the Government and Peninsula City Chairman Geoffrey Simon, was ratified unanimously by the Sierra Leone Parliament on 24 April 2023. It includes planning permission, a 119-year tenure and investment incentives.

The focal point of Peninsula City is a luxury hotel, tourist resort and marina, linked to a secure conference facility, performing arts centre and artefacts gallery. Peninsula City will also accommodate a business hotel, retail mall, medical polyclinic, sports and recreation centre, business and professional offices, municipal services and sustainable upper and mid-level housing. 

The employees of Peninsula City and the local villagers of Big Water will be provided with affordable housing, job training, medical services, schools and a community centre.

Integrated within Peninsula City is Peninsula University—a vocational training institution addressing the national objective of stimulating employment, enterprise creation and economic diversification. Its Faculties are sector-based in response to need:  Peninsula School of Hospitality, Peninsula School of Nursing, Gemstone School of Sierra Leone, and Sierra Leone School of Apparel.

In its design, infrastructure, construction and operations, Peninsula City is a $185,000,000 high-return investment project that allies today’s expertise, experience and technology with the commitment to preserve and enhance the beauty and ecological integrity of this prize location.

Peninsula City is regarded by the Government of Sierra Leone as a flagship development for the nation. It will serve as a benchmark for the responsible growth of tourism, urban planning, vocational training and business entrepreneurship across the country.
